“IRAQI-TURKISH RELATIONS: JOINT HISTORY TO SUSTAINABLE COOPERATION” SYMPOSIUM
In Mosul the Scientific Symposium with the title of “Iraqi-Turkish Relations: From Joint History To Sustainable Cooperation” was hold by Mosul University Regional Studies Center in cooperation with Iraqi Cultural Attache in Ankara between 29-30 June 2011. Nebahat Tanrıverdi O, Middle East Research Assistant attended the symposium on the behalf of ORSAM. The symposium was started with the opening speech made by Prof. Dr. Obai Saeed Al-Dewachi, President of Mosul University. Vice President of Gaziantep University Prof. Dr. Abdurahman Kadayıfçı, Mosul University Head of Regional Studies Center Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Khalil Al-Alaff, Dr. Mohammed Arfat and Dr. Dureyd Abdulkadir Nuri, Deputy Iraq Culture Attache made speeches. In the symposium which covered the participants from Mosul University, Iraq Culture Attache, ORSAM, Mardin Artuklu University and Gaziantep University, the existing relations between Iraq and Turkey, possibilities of cooperation fields and in this context, the existing opportunities were discussed. Prof. Dr. Obai Saeed Al-Dewachi, President of Mosul University stated that Turkey placed in the very important position for Iraq and as University of Mosul they want to assist strengthening the relations which boosted by historical roots and cooperation in many fields between two countries. After Prof. Dr. Obai Saeed Al-Dewachi’s speech, Dr. Dureyd Abdulkadir Nuri, Deputy Iraq Culture Attache highlighted that “Iraqi-Turkish Relations: From Joint History To Sustainable Cooperation” Symposium was serial of “Turkey-Iraq Relations: History and Openings towards the Future” which held in cooperation with ORSAM in 9-10 June 2010 in Ankara. He added that he hope this kind of meetings will go on in the future. Dr. Dureyd Abdulkadir Nuri said that this meetings which bring Turkish counterparts from Turkey and Iraq together and give the chance to discuss opportunities of cooperation has played a crucial role in improving the relations between two countries and emphasized the importance of increasing relations between Iraq and Turkey in recent years. The third speaker of the symposium, Vice President of Gaziantep University Prof. Dr. Abdurahman Kadayıfçı mentioned the relations between Turkey and Iraq and gave brief information about Gaziantep University. The first round of symposium was ended with Mosul University Head of Regional Studies Center Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Khalil Al-Alaff’s speech. He thanked to the participants of symposium which can be regarded as continuation of the symposium held in Ankara in cooperation with ORSAM in 2010. He said that they aimed to gathered many academicians, businessman, experts and others from both countries to improve the relations.
